1. Re: Poor Develop module performance on new retina iMac
Bob Somrak Nov 9, 2014 1:57 PM (in response to F Tedsen)Just for a test make the Lightroom window 1/4th of the size of your screen which will be about 2560X1440 pixels which is the display of the non-retina Imac. Lightroom will then have to calculate a lot less pixels. If it speeds up then it is a problem the high pixel count of the full screen. Hopefully Adobe is addressing performance when using high pixel screens for Lightroom 6.

JPRImages Nov 10, 2014 4:07 AM (in response to F Tedsen)I Have the same spec'd 5k iMac with 32gb of ram and I am having major slowness in develop module when trying to crop. I too am frustrated and don't have an answer as LR 5.6 is fine on my late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro and late 2012 27" iMac. Others with new 5k iMacs are reporting issues running LR.

RobbyJai Nov 10, 2014 4:23 AM (in response to JPRImages)i had this issue as well. i was having major issues with the crop tool and the spinning beach ball..... i accidentally found out what the cause of the problem is...
i Found out on my OS X Yosemite, when i looked at my disk permissions... (my catalog was stored on an external Thunderbolt 2 Scratch Disk) and found that the user permission did not have my username set up for Read & Write.
Click on the disk where your catalog is stored - right click and click get info - Look at sharing permissions. If your user account is not in there and set up for Read & Write it may cause the problems you are describing
ever since i fixed it up my issues are gone now

JPRImages Nov 10, 2014 4:31 AM (in response to RobbyJai)Thanks, for sharing with me. I checked and my catalog which is on my internal hard drive and my user act is set up for Read & Write and I still have spinning beach ball when cropping.

JPRImages Nov 10, 2014 5:23 AM (in response to F Tedsen)Reducing LR window to 1/4th did speed things up, I also found that not applying noise reduction also sped things up. Hoping for better from Adobe.

Julie Kmoch Nov 10, 2014 9:30 AM (in response to JPRImages)We are investigating. Reducing the size of the window is most likely to help at this point, as the challenge here is the number of pixels being served up on the 5K screen.

F Tedsen Nov 10, 2014 6:39 PM (in response to Julie Kmoch)Yes, reducing window size takes care of the problem, as does switching to 1280x1440 low resolution. Unfortunately neither of those solution are realistic. Hopefully Adobe can come up with some ways to enhance performance. It will be a challenge, I imagine.
