shooternz Nov 9, 2014 8:02 PM (in response to lobot_bumper)Ah ha. I see
Are you sure the Key frames are not in Batch one layer?

4. Re: Why are my mask path keys disappearing?!
lobot_bumper Nov 9, 2014 8:08 PM (in response to shooternz)Alas, they aren't.
I'm new to this feature in Premiere and have 3 'batch' masks as my mask circle kept getting extra control points by accident and became unmanageable. So my having three is something of a work around.
It's as if my working on a mask causes keys that I've previously laid down to just disappear into thin air.

5. Re: Why are my mask path keys disappearing?!
lobot_bumper Nov 9, 2014 8:20 PM (in response to lobot_bumper)I wonder if my use of Tracking (an amazing feature) this is somehow zapping previous keyframes...

Mark Mapes Nov 12, 2014 12:26 AM (in response to lobot_bumper)Exactly which version of Premiere are you on--the full number shown in the About box?

7. Re: Why are my mask path keys disappearing?!
lobot_bumper Nov 12, 2014 10:45 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)Hi Mark!
I am running the demo. 2014.1 Release. 8.1.0 (81) Build.
Thanks! Loving the software otherwise, and realize this may very well be pilot error.

8. Re: Why are my mask path keys disappearing?!
Mark Mapes Nov 12, 2014 2:01 PM (in response to lobot_bumper)Thanks for the additional info, lobot_bumper. The lead tester on the Masking and Tracking feature set tells me that two bugs involving tracking keyframes getting lost were fixed in 8.1, and we don't have any open bugs in this vein. However, on one occasion he had a set of these keyframes disappear, but he could not isolate a "repro case"--a set of steps that caused this to happen. So it's certainly possible that you're hitting an unreported bug. Since this has happened to you more than once, perhaps you'll be able to discern a pattern that helps us get a handle on it.
Whatever info you can provide would be great. Here are a few directions to think in:
- do the keyframes disappear during the course of a given session with Premiere, or only after closing and reloading the project.
- What kind of track items does this happen with? Regular A/V clips, merged clips, nested sequences, multicam sequences, subclips? Exactly what type of content--AVCHD, QT clips containing h.264 video, ... Are the clips spanned (let me know if you're not sure what that means...)
- Did you manually adjust any of the tracking keyframes, or are they exactly as written by the app?
- Did you do the tracking forward or backward?
- Were the keyframes that got lost from the same tracking pass as those that survived? If so, did anything change at the dividing line between those that were lost and those that survived? Feather, expansion, adding or moving a point in the mask...
- Does this happen with only one kind of mask? Ellipse, 4-Pt, Free-draw?
And anything else you can think of that might be relevant.

9. Re: Why are my mask path keys disappearing?!
lobot_bumper Nov 12, 2014 2:48 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Thanks Mark - I wish I could give a clear STR, but the loss of keys always seemed to happen, what I wasn't looking so to speak. In fact, I've opened the file in an attempt to reproduce the problem, to no avail. Since the issue arose I have rebooted my machine. Perhaps I should have followed the 'when in doubt, reboot' adage..." Anyhow, I'll try to answer your questions as well as I can.
1. I only noticed it while actively working in Premiere. Saving the file seems to effectively save the keyframes.
2. The track is fairly vanilla. AVI, 720x480. 29.7 FPS, with a 16 bit audio track. It's an old video I'm sprucing up, and remains contiguous throughout, until the end where I split the last 20 seconds or so, so I could slow them down. Nothing fancy on this clip, as I pretty much dragged it from the bin and plopped it into the sequence. I can investigate further if you need more info about the source material.
3. I did manually adjust some of the keyframes, or more accurately, I would step through and adjust the mask frame by frame. I don't recall shifting any mask path frames in the Effect Controls timeline, thought I did move opacity keys around. The opacity keys never blinked out however.
4. Forward and backwards, continuous and frame by frame.
5. I would often zoom in while in Effects Controls to work on a section, only to find when I zoomed back out that the previous keys within that same pass were gone. The keys I just made, however would still be there. There was no change between the point. Contiguous, unadulterated footage.
6. I only used the ellipse.
I can't think of any additional elements. Thanks for looking into this. I was successful in limping home and getting the project done, but it's nice to know you guys have gotten your eyes peeled for issues.
