station_two Nov 10, 2014 3:44 AM (in response to Charley Rose)In all probability, you got ripped off by the eBay seller, which is a most common, typical occurrence.
If someone has used that CS3 serial number to upgrade to a higher Photoshop version, then that copy is now invalid and illegal to sell.

2. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
Charley Rose Nov 10, 2014 7:04 AM (in response to station_two)Actually the package has never been opened! So that is the ONLY reason I decided to buy it - I understand about software piracy. So can you please tell me if this CS3 is compatible with Windows 8.1 - because if not, I will have 7 days to return it in its original packaging (or in this case just never allow it to be sent). He was a paypal protected seller - which again is the other reason I went with this seller. Thanks

gener7 Nov 10, 2014 8:18 AM (in response to Charley Rose)Windows 8.1 compatibility for Adobe Photoshop CS3 version 10
I do have an idea: Download the CS3 trial here:
If there are no problems, you can enter the serial number from your new purchase into the trial to activate it.

Charley Rose Nov 10, 2014 10:30 AM (in response to gener7)Thank you so much. I will try it and see what happens! I saw that recommendation by someone else but didn't know if there was a free download available to try. You are very kind! I'll let you know how I make out.

8. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
Charley Rose Nov 10, 2014 10:42 AM (in response to Charley Rose)Fingers crossed!!! I do not really want to be locked into the Creative Cloud pay as you go model. That does not appeal to me. I take my computer everywhere with me and will never work on anything from a cellphone or other device. Well at least I don't believe I will at this time.

9. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
gener7 Nov 10, 2014 10:47 AM (in response to Charley Rose)I have it, but then again I rent my apartment and pay my utilities. I probably spend more on coffee than the $10 per month.
But to each their own conscience.

10. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
Charley Rose Nov 10, 2014 11:44 AM (in response to gener7)Gene ... you are a God send! I have downloaded the program and I so far have opened it and was able to open an existing RAW file, TIFF, and jPeg.
I did choose the 30 day trial option to try to use it for a few days before my software package arrives!!! It did ask for a serial number as you mentioned so will input the number from my package that will be arriving next week. I paid $200 + $40 shipping. A mere 1/3 of original boxed pricing when I looked into buying in 2007!!! So I am a very happy camper - and could not have done this without your help. Thank you thank you thank you!
P.S. I don't even drink coffee LOL - and I am so frugal that I have a cellphone charged up - but no contract, no pay as you go - simply there in case of emergency - because all cellphones must have that access. Maybe someday when my grandkids get a little older and they bug me enough - I'll consider changing my ways. Take care and thanks again for all of your help.

12. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
Charley Rose Nov 10, 2014 9:04 PM (in response to gener7)Well after all that, I send the guy money and explain that I got the trial downloaded and he admits that the package was open and had no serial number!!! GRRRRRR ... he did however, refund my money so he wouldn't be looked upon unfavourably on Ebay. Not good. So I'll keep looking for an authentic licensed product - if not CC will have to do. Can you tell me, do you get to download the program on your computer - or does everything get stored in the cloud and that is where you have to store your projects as well? I don't like the idea of people being able to hack into my professional photos.

13. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
gener7 Nov 10, 2014 10:00 PM (in response to Charley Rose)Ok it's like the serial number model in that you download the actual Photoshop programs to your PC (you can install on up to two PCs or Macs for your own use). But instead of a serial number, you set up a recurring charge account, and you sign in to activate the program.
Your work can be saved anywhere on your computer just like the older serial number type. You keep your files even if you discontinue the subscription. Your files can still be opened by other programs, but if there was a feature exclusive to CC or CC 2014 you won't be able to edit it. But to answer your questions your files stay with you, Adobe doesn't see or possess any copies.
If you decide to stay on, what you get is upgrades and new versions as soon as they are released. No more upgrade fees. You get the Extended version of Photoshop with 3D and video editing features. Not bad for $10 a month.
You do get cloud storage, but only 2 GB and nothing goes there unless you upload it.
Think of it as a holding place for the files you wish to share with others.
You can get Bridge CC with the latest Adobe Camera Raw, and Lightroom for managing and editing large amounts of digital Photos.
Typekit if you want to add new fonts.
That's the short story, here are the ddetails and of course you can try before you buy.
Creative Cloud Photography plan | Adobe Creative Cloud
If you are heavy into Design, you might want the full Creative Cloud for $50/month with all the web, video, and publishing tools you want.
Creative Cloud pricing and membership plans | Adobe Creative Cloud
So check it out and see what you think.

gener7 Nov 11, 2014 6:09 AM (in response to station_two)PayPal/Ebay is a protected setup. He would get his money back.
Not like buying a brick in a box on the streets.
Don't know why the crook thought it would work. Needs to be reported for trying that stunt.

16. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
Charley Rose Nov 11, 2014 6:29 AM (in response to station_two)Station_two ... the only reason I paid the guy was because he WAS a paypal protected seller - with a report of 100% satisfaction. If he didn't return my money I was protected by paypal that I knew. If you can believe it, the guy actually had the nerve to ask me for a good rating because he returned my money! Sounds like a scam to build up his credibility! He's getting a negative rating from me!

17. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
Charley Rose Nov 12, 2014 7:34 AM (in response to gener7)Thanks Gene ... I already owned Lightroom and had upgraded once at $79 after paying $150 for original program...so was hoping to buy CS3 or greater for a good price. There is no option for support for CS3 anymore - I found out - so If I do purchase, I'll have to go to CS6 until that support expires. I will think about CC now that you explained it. I do believe it is accessible without internet access as well (while I am travelling in the car) I heard ... so that makes a big difference in considering. You have been very helpful. Thanks again for helping me I really truly appreciate it!

18. Re: HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1
gener7 Nov 12, 2014 6:14 PM (in response to Charley Rose)You're welcome, Charley. I hope you find what works for you. CC does not need 24/7 Internet access for the license check which is usually every 30 days. Even then, a wireless hotspot will do.
