    hide start stop barcode characters

    csvtext

      using acrobat pro xi on windows with a form that has a pdf417 barcode field and a barcode number text input field.

      currently using the following javascript to place start stop characters in the pdf417 barcode field.

      // Add an asterisk to the beginning and end of the value

      if (event.value) event.value = "*" + event.value + "*";

      it works great for scanning the barcode but it displays the beginning and ending asterisks on screen.

      i would like to 'hide' the asterisks on screen when scanned and just display the number part only.

      thanks in advance for anyone's help.

          And what do you want to happen?

          Will the data on the screen ever be scanned?

          If so then you should not hide the code.

          If this will be printed and the bar code scanned from the print document, then you could have two fields with the bar code value. A display only field that has the format set to not display the start and stop bits and a print only field that has the start and stop bits.

          Or you could have a will print script that change the format to include the start and stop bits and then a did print script that changes the format to not show the start and stop bits.

            thank you for your reply.

            we actually will be scanning the barcode from the computer monitor (fillable pdf form) using a 'camera based' scanner (smartphone or hand held).  The on screen barcode on this form is then scanned into another program to retrieve a record.

            we will probably never print the form.

            this works great in microsoft excel.
