Do you still have Premiere Elements 8 installation files or installation disc?
If so, you will need to reinstall it, deactivate it, and then uninstall it.
That is the easy way.
What is the history behind this...do you need to install the purchased serial number for 8 on a 3rd computer and need to remove it from one of the two other computers which each have the same purchased serial number version?
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
Hey thanks for the reply ATR.
I had thought the issue I was having was because of the deactivation. I contacted Adobe support and they stated that they have corrected the problem with my deactivation, that was yesterday.
- I have uninstalled PE8
- Installed Quicktime
- Installed DirectX
Still having the issue were nothing is selectable except
Even when I start a project...nothing loads.
When I try to open a project I get the error message.
"Projects created with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Premiere Elements are not compatible. Please use the appropriate application to open this project."
This is the message when creating a file and reopening in PE8.

I just reinstalled it again but shut down my McAfee Antivirus and Firewall.
Running PE8 without them on and it works!!
Turning them back on and the problem returns....
I checked your recommendations from another post ATR...
Sorry for such a delayed follow up. I got detoured many times as well as having some Internet connection issues with my computer.
From what I have read, McAfee controls both the antivirus and firewall(s) and has been problematic for Premiere Elements (many versions). Not sure if the issues go to recent McAfee update(s) or McAfee overall.
If you have not already, you might contact McAfee in an attempt to get details on how McAfee settings might be customized to permit Premiere Elements to function?
Or, have you identified another antivirus program that you can use without problems for Premiere Elements?
Great job in tracking down the cause of the issue.
