Flash Player installed but won't work

I have installed the latest version of Flash Player and made sure it is enabled and ActiveX Filtering is off. When I try to open an Adobe file that requires Flash Player, I get a notification that reads "To view the Flash technology content in this PDF File, please install the required version of Flash Player." Why won't it work?

To view PDF documents with Rich Media content you need to install the Flash Player plugin http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player.exe

I'm having the same issue and the solution suggested by Pat didn't help. I watched one video fine then the next one showed an error message. But I do have the most recent version. Tried everything - security updates, uninstalling/installing flash, disabling my firewall. What's left?

"an error message" really doesn't tell us very much.
