What operating system?
Standalone Lightroom or creative cloud?
When Lightroom won't start, is there an error message?
When Lightroom starts, what is happening that you can't download your images?
thanks for your prompt reply.
OS: Windows 8.1
no error message when it doesn't start
when it starts the thumbnails in the library are grey and it needs a lot of time to upload each image (more than 1 min each I suppose)
It seems Jim is busy. Is there anybody who cab help me?
Sorry, I was off doing other things. I'm not working for Adobe. I don't just do responses on the forum. Did you install Lightroom from the disk that came with your camera? What actual version of Lightroom are you running? If you can get tol the Lightroom help menu, you can find out the exact version.
Thank you Jim. I appreciate very much your help.
I downloaded Lightroom vers. 5, then I was invited to upgrade it at 5.6 (and camera raw 8.6, as checked in the help menu)
I'm wondering if somehow you have gotten tangled in the creative cloud version. I suggest that you uninstall Lightroom from your computer, and then download from this location:Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.6
Install using that installer and see if it makes a difference. Tell me more about your computer:
How much RAM?
How much disk space is available?
More than one hard drive?
Have you been able to do anything at all using Lightroom since you installed it?
I will try to uninstall and then download from the location you suggest.
RAM: 8 GB
two hard drive
1,43 TB available (1,81 total) + 283 GB available in the second hard drive (596 GB total)
I couldn't do anything with Lightroom from the very beginning because it wasn't almost able to upload the library (very very slow)
I suggest installing Lightroom again, as mentioned previously. I think it's best if the Lightroom program is installed on the system drive, the one with your operating system. Your images and catalog and associated files can go on the second hard drive if you prefer. How much free space is on the 1.4 TB hard drive?
1,43 TB free out of 1,81 TB.
Lightroom was installed on the system drive. There is a folder called programs (where Lightroom was filed) and a second folder called programs (x86). Both have a folder Adobe with all the programs (Acrobat and Photoshop). So the question could be: Shall I file Lightroom in programs (as it did by itself) or in program (x86)? What is the difference? if it refer to 32 or 64 bit, my computer is a 64 bit,
x86 Is for 32-bit applications. You shouldn't need Lightroom installed in that folder. Are you certain you are running the 64-bit version? If you decide to do the reinstall as I suggested, just install the 64-bit version and let it install the the default location.
ok. I'll keep you informed.
thank you again
Hi Jim, I solved the problem but through the italian help desk of Adobe. It was a matter of a folder to be removed
it was user name - APP data - roaming - Adobe - Adobe Lightroom (the last one folder)
