I've never used after effects, but I do own it as part of my cs6 adobe master collection & was wondering if it's capable of doing the following effect:
-I have 2 videos: one of a clearing in a public park (camera doesn't move) & one of a couple walking together on a city sidewalk.
-I want to overlay the couple onto the background video of the public park, to make it look like they're walking in the park. So I guess I'm looking to see if it's possible to "cut" the walking couple out of their video and overlay it onto the park video
-Finally, I want to have the couple fade away and disappear.
Is this possible using after effects cs6? I'm sure in doing it this way, even if possible, it may look a little fake but that's ok. Obviously, I'd prefer it to look great, but at this point, I'll take what I can get.
Yes, what you describe is doable with After Effects. What you're describing is generally known as 'compositing', and After Effects is a video compositing program.

Sure, with a catch.
After Effects is not like using any other program you have ever used and you will not be successful unless you go through some basic training. How to add effects and motion graphics in After Effects | Adobe After Effects CC tutorials
Pulling off a composite like this requires preproduction planning and careful camera work. You might get lucky, but don't count on making the shot believable without serious planning.
