    Lightroom or Photoshop?

    braybromom

I am a mother of two and like to take my own pictures of my children.  I'm not sure which product would be best for me.  Can you isolate colors in lightroom (meaning the photo is all black and white except maybe one color such as red?)  Also, do your photos retain their quality with lightroom?

Lightroom can do this. So can Photoshop Elements and Photoshop, both probably have more tools than Lightroom

          Yes

There is an increase in complexity between the three programs that dj-paige mentions, with Elements probably the easiest to learn, followed by Lightroom, and full Photoshop definitely the most complex.

So the best program, to start with at least, might be Elements if you only want to do the processes you mentioned, along with other more normal photo manipulations.
