Where are your images stored on your computer?
Can you locate them, and import them directly from Finder to Lightroom's Library module?

I have same question, and the suggestion Pete links to does not work on this version on iPhoto v.9.6, its for 9.2???
I may import photos into Lightroom, but I am not sure whether this will make copies of th photo or just link to them!
I defenitely prefer to just have ONE original of a photo. So what happens when I import photo? Copy or link to?

Depends on what you select in the import panel. You can keep it in place. Copy it, or move the file (which you really do not want to do in this case)
Found a solution!
It turnes out that in LR 5.7... ;-) there is the needed feature available allowing you to import both iPhoto lib and/or Aperture lib.

so Adobe just needs to update there website to reflect this
