Crashing when you do what?
What is your operating system?
Scrolling through pics. Here's the message: Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its previous cache and needs to quit."
I uninstalled it completely and reinstalled Lightroom 5 thinking it was the 5.7 version. Same thing happened.
OS: Windows 7 Home
Just for future reference, if there is an error message, you probably should state the error message in you first post, that will get you a quicker resolution to your problem.
The message "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its previous cache and needs to quit." means that you need to delete your preview cache. This is a folder in the same folder as your Lightroom catalog whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Delete this entire folder. Do not delete the .LRCAT file.
You're right, I should have put the error. I was frustrated and couldn't remember exactly what it said!
Thank you for the help! Seems to have fixed the problem. Did I do something to cause the problem?

Have had no crashes, only recurring problem of not having Lightroom 5.7 on right click menu. This has been happening with every upgrade of LR5. Fix is to go to registry of windows Run>Regedit> Find> lightroom. Will come up with previous version e.g 5.6 Modify and change 6 to 7. Close and save. You will now find LR on right click menu. Will not change usual way of open with>choose default program, as going through usual way, Adobe>Lightroom 5.7>Lightroom will not stick
The Lightroom workflow isn't designed to have Lightroom be a default program. You should open Lightroom and import images using the import dialog.
Who says you should open LR to find individual photo? I much prefer Right Click interface as it is with PSCC.

Nobody said that.

Whether you prefer it or not, that's not how Lr is meant to be used.
I have recently done a clean install of Windows 7 64. I have upgraded Lightroom 5 to 5.7 and now I get one or two crashes per day which never happened before.
I run Windows 7 64 SP1 on a 4 core 3400mghz processor and 16000 megabites of memory. I cannot find a hardware fault and my antivirus is not reporting any problems.
The last occasion I was marking up images with colour codes when the screen greyed and a message said that Lightroom had stopped and was going to close. I have never had a specific error message.
I deleted the LRDATA as suggested but this has not helped. I usually backup LR after a session particularly if there have been changes.
I would be grateful for any suggestions although I do not seem to lose data.
