assuming horizontal scroll
register the starting X value as a 0 counter
as the scroll is dragged, test the to see if the new x value is negative or positive with respect to that start point.
if negative, scrolling left so fade in past
if positive, scrolling right so fade in future
take it one step at a time. for each movieclip you know two alphas when the slider is at 2 positions. you can then use linear interpolation to determine the alpha at all other slider positions.
passing each of your image movieclips, along with its 2 alphas corresponding the the 2 positions of your slider to determineAlphaParametersF() will assign the interpolation parameters. you can then just call imageAlphaF() passing the image reference and the slider's position to assign the correct alpha:
