Premiere Pro CC2014 viewer unresponsive/freezes after render 'In To Out'

      Hi,

I’m running the latest update of Adobe Premiere CC 2014.

I’m experiencing very frequent issues using the program - The viewer ‘locks up’ or freezes and I do not receive any visual feedback.

Most of the time it seems to occur after ‘Render in to out’ is clicked.

The solution so far has been to restart the application. This is an issue as it is happening only after a few minutes of use, making it practically unworkable.

This happens on projects carried over from previous releases and also fresh CC2014 projects. The project itself is not overlay complicated - Some clip scaling, colour adjustment layers. A couple of light leak footage layers screened over the main footage.

Effects: Lumetri and Three way colour corrector. Cross dissolves and Constant Power.

I wondered if there might have been a permissions issue and so flagged with our IT staff - I have been assured that all permissions have been set properly so that we should not experience any issues there.

All other applications are running fine and I’ve verified that there are no speed issues with our server, both via Blackmagic speed test application and also with our IT staff here,

Preference has been set to render using ‘Software Only’ as i have been told by an Adobe rep on a separate occasion that this is the best scenario to eliminate Open CL or CUDA issues.

Hugely frustrating as we are unable to have any client attended edits and lose both time and therefore money on this issue.

If anybody can help, it would be hugely appreciated!

A lot of info here, but not the crucial info we need, such as, computer specs, the OS you run, the GPU you use, the media that is giving you trouble, etc. Start here for that: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

Also, you mention that you "have no issues with our server…" So I assume that you are working with media on a network drive. Are you? If so, what happens if you move the media to a high speed local array?

          Thanks,
          Kevin

Hi Kevin, here is the requested info:

            • What version of Premiere Pro? - 20140.1 release /  8.0.1 (21) Build
            • Recent updates - Yes, all
            • What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac". - MAC OSX 10.9.5
            • What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime". - .MOV container, 1920X1080 25FPS, Canon 5D, H264 Codec
            • If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? - No error given
            • What were you doing when the problem occurred? - render 'in to out' completes, seems to trigger a UI freeze, can interact with program but no visual feedback in video/source monitors.
            • Has this ever worked before? - Yes in previous releases
            • What other software are you running? - None, only system OS
            • Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? - Red Giant Universe, Lumerati - Only Lumerati being used
            • Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU). - imac 3.5GHz Intl Core i7, 32GB Ram 1600MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
            • Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration? - Have been working in Software only mode in an attempt to eliminate any GPU issues. Issue persists
            • Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both? - Seems to be previews ony/rendering in to out for smooth playback

Screenshots and sample movies are often very useful in showing exactly what you're seeing, and can thus make getting an answer faster and easier. - Not willing to post client work here can send privately - please advise where I can send a private Vimeo Link

Working from our network has never been an issue before the 2014 release. I am willing to try but do not have time right now. Given that this has not happened before I would really like to try other steps first if possible.

Just had another UI/lockup/no viewer response - At the time I was receiving 108MB/s write speeds across the network and 104.3MB/s Read Speed.
