Clicking off link turns page grey!

Hello, I am using Acrobat XI Pro and I have had a recurring issue with linking documents. For work I am required to link key words back to different pages within the document.Usually large file size charts. Every time I highlight text, make a link, then click off to make another link, the page turns grey. Then I usually have to press previous view about 4 times to get back to the page I was supposed to be on. As some documents have upwards of 150 links within them, this is greatly affecting my productivity. It happens every single time I link a page. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Acrobat and Reader require a lot of resources as does displaying large graphics. As a result Adobe by default does not display large graphics. You need to edit your preferences to display large graphic images.

Show Large Images is already checked. My problem isn't with loading the images themselves. The problem is that after I link a page to these large images and I go to make another link, the initial cursor click instead of highlighting the text (as it should and as I intended to do) turns the entire page grey. Whenever I navigate back to the page with the text I was trying to link, it will show the entire paragraph highlighted up to the word I was trying to highlight.

I'm not sure if I'm making much sense
