dj_paige Dec 1, 2014 1:17 PM (in response to Jorge Salum)Did you move the photos using your operating system? If so, that is the problem. Lightroom is not a file browser, it does not know about any folders except those that you imported photos from, or those that you re-connect to. You should be able to reconnect in Lightroom via Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
You'd be better off putting the photos on the external drive before you import them. Saves you a step.

Jorge Salum Dec 1, 2014 1:40 PM (in response to dj_paige)I imported the pictures through Lightroom. I actually worked with them within lightroom, the folders were there but suddenly the folders just don't show .. I understand the Find Missing folder es when you get a ? or a ! marc on the top right of the pictures, mines don't show it. The pictures are visible within lightroom in the Catalog Module but there are no files on the files module

dj_paige Dec 1, 2014 2:35 PM (in response to Jorge Salum)Right-click on any photo in the Library Module and select Go To Folder In Library. On the left, in the folder panel, the folder that this photo is stored in will be highlighted (and you may have to scroll up or down to find the highlighted folder)

Jorge Salum Dec 1, 2014 3:02 PM (in response to dj_paige)well, the problem is that the folders are missing in the folder panel .. it only shows me the folders that are in the computer HD but not the ones in the external one. I already followed you advice but does not take me anywhere. When I right click and ask ¨show in finder ¨ it takes me to the folder en the hard drive. One thing i notice is that lightroom is not detecting the external hard drive, would that be the problem ? it does not shows in the folder panel. I understand that even if the external drive is not plugged in the folder should be there, right ? ... thank for your help, I really appreciate it, I am kind of desperate .. any other suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

dj_paige Dec 1, 2014 3:09 PM (in response to Jorge Salum)No, that's not the problem I asked you to address.
Right-click on a photo in the Library Module (click on All Photographs first if necessary) and select Go To Folder in Library, like I said. What happens? Do you find the folder which contains the photos? Yes or No?

Jorge Salum Dec 1, 2014 3:24 PM (in response to dj_paige)no, i don't find the folder .. the only way to find its location is selecting ¨ show in finder ¨. When I select ¨ Go to folder in Library ¨ does not go anywhere, there are no folders within the folder panel to go to .. those folders were there yesterday, i worked with them, i could see them all, suddenly they just disappeared ..

dj_paige Dec 2, 2014 4:04 AM (in response to Jorge Salum)So a small number of photos appear, but most of the folder do not?
Can we see a screen capture, with folders expanded as much as you can on one screen?
When you select "Show in Finder", does it take you to the proper folder?

Jorge Salum Dec 2, 2014 7:47 AM (in response to dj_paige)all the pictures appear but can only be shown clicking in the Catalog Panel in LR, they are all included within the ¨all pictures¨ and in ¨ Previus import ¨ ... the previus import are all the photos i cannot see within folders ..
Let me see how can i show you a screen capture and send it, I think this would explain better the situation
Yes, when i click show in finder, it takes me to the HD and shows me the right folder the picture is in. The folders in the HD show the order and titles i defined on lightroom .. so the folders i defined in lightroom were registered correctly in the HD but are no longer shown in the folder panel in LR

dj_paige Dec 2, 2014 7:50 AM (in response to Jorge Salum)I'm starting to think that you should delete your Preference file: Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5

dj_paige Dec 2, 2014 8:06 AM (in response to Jorge Salum)So total photos in the catalog is over 130,000 but in the folder panel is only 31,000 or so.
I guess this means you have been describing things properly. What is the exact full folder path and name (as found when you click on "Show in Finder") of one of the folders containing these photos whose folder name doesn't appear in Lightroom?
I would definitely try deleting the Preference file.

Jorge Salum Dec 2, 2014 8:18 AM (in response to Jorge Salum)and deleting the the Preference File would bring the hidden files back to lightroom ? would it be recommended to back up all my files before deleting the preference file since with this change i put all my pictures in the external HD and at the moment is the only archive I have ..

dj_paige Dec 2, 2014 8:21 AM (in response to Jorge Salum)Deleting the preference file can fix all sorts of "weird" user interface things. It doesn't hurt to try. You don't need to make backups of anything for this reason (of course, you should have backups of all of your photos and catalog file)
What is the exact full folder path and name (as found when you click on "Show in Finder") of one of the folders containing these photos whose folder name doesn't appear in Lightroom?
