1. Re: is the 'folio overlays' panel geared stictly toward creating apps? I do not need an app but do need an interactive document with overlays.
Steve Werner Dec 2, 2014 9:41 AM (in response to SL-Titan)No, the Folio Overlays panel is only used by Digital Publishing Suite plug-ins to create DPS apps. It cannot be used for interactive PDFs, or EPUB, or SWF, or any other kind of output.

SL-Titan Dec 2, 2014 10:59 AM (in response to Steve Werner)Perfect, thanks. I take it that the end use of DPS is targeting an audience looking for a Mobil app or iPad app. Would that be a good assumption?

Jeffrey_Smith Dec 2, 2014 11:28 AM (in response to SL-Titan)What Overlay effect are you trying to achieve? Some, but not all overlay effects can be replicated for use in an interactive PDF.

SL-Titan Dec 2, 2014 11:43 AM (in response to Jeffrey_Smith)multi-state objects, folio overlay slideshow (I think). I would like to create a fun to use manual (with stacked images/pages) in which the end used may click from step to step with ability to go fwd/backward/or start over. So far, I was able to get a nice PDF file with works great on my computer... however; I want the file to work across all platforms and the interactive PDF I created will not work on my phone even though I'm using the Adobe reader app. I really wish that I could create an interactive pdf that worked properly on any device that wasn't just a bunch of pages like a boring document with a TOC.

BobLevine Dec 2, 2014 11:51 AM (in response to SL-Titan)You might consider a fixed layout epub, but you’ll need InDesign CC2014.1 to do so.

SL-Titan Dec 2, 2014 12:28 PM (in response to BobLevine)great, I have CC. I experimented just once with epub and ended up with a huge file somehow. Canstate object pdfs are the coolest files but they're limited in function across platforms. I'm in a place where the audience for my manual shouldn't be limited to only those with desktops, or only those with mobile devices. I'll even have a case where the person needing the manual could need to download the manual due to traveling. If epub is a possible solution then, that would be key for me to learn more about.
