reset your preferences, http://indesignsecrets.com/rebuilding-indesign-preferences.php
if that fails, uninstall, clean and then reinstall using the adobe installer. ie, do not migrate etc adobe programs.

Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages. They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3. If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.
Tried it ... but still the same problem...
I wonder if ID4 works on a Macbook Pro with Retina display... on my old MBP there was no problem at all.
Moving this discussion to the InDesign forum.
CS4 is unsupported under Mavericks and Yosemite. If you used migration assistant, uninstall, run the cleaner tool and reinstall using the original media.
If you already did that, I’m afraid you’re on your own.
hmmm.... not good... but thanks!
