I'm doing kinetic typography which I've done before with no problem. Today I opened up my updated After Effects cc 2014 and went to do swing down text. I set up the text on the left of my movie and when I went to adjust the X AXIS it ended up swinging the text down at an angle instead of straight on. Then when I moved the text to the right of the screen the Arrow that indicates the X axis switched and now brings the text down at the opposite angle. It's not until I move my text to the dead center of my movie that the X axis arrow points straight back and swings the text down straight on. I haven't had this problem before creating swing down text.
Read up on gimbal lock and how to avoid it.
Hmmm, I'm seeing a lot of questions about gimbal lock, but not really any answers. Is "gimbal lock" what's going on with my axes?
That depends entirely on what is going on with your camera. It sounds like it though. If you run into problems when you try to get the camera to look down on something from above or up at something from below, Then you are running into gimbal lock.
