Does Adobe have a fix for this? I have thousands and thousands of images that are now flagged as 'changed externally', which is not the case.
To fix, after saving metadata, read metadata.
Lr clearly has a bug or two in the metadata status area, this should at least get you past the one you're hitting now.
PS - *** BACKUP CATALOG FIRST.
I understand saving the metadata out from LR, with overwrite, will mask the issue. I was hoping Adobe would be monitoring this and get a permanent fix for this. I have thousands of images, in multiple catalogs, that would take some time to save the metadata out. Then when the next version of LR comes out, I would need to do this again.

This is a user-to-user forum. Consider filing a bug report to Adobe here (search for existing bug report first):
To be clear: my proposed work-around solution assumed that saving metadata did NOT fix the problem, but that reading metadata after saving might. - such is a problem I am familiar with.
PS - Unless this is a new problem with which I am unfamiliar, you probably won't have to go through the work-around "solution" after every new dot version.
PPS - Saving metadata, and re-reading it, all photographs in catalog, should not take more than a few minutes - if it does, then something is wrong.
Rob, thanks very much.
