After an hour and a half on hold and 30 minutes on the phone, turns out it WAS a hosts issue but the hosts file in /etc folded needed to be renamed. He asked me to rename the folder hosts_old and close all adobe applications, restart my computer then open adobe applications again. It then prompted me for a serial number and i selected 'license this software' and signed in with my adobe id. ALL WAS RESOLVED.
Thank-you for everyones help.
