Until yesterday I have been using Flash Player with Internet Explorer without problems. That changed yesterday when something caused IE to begin operating VERY slowly and Flash Player would not operate at all. I attempted many times to reinstall the latest version of Flash Player and each time when I reached the "retrieving install" window I get the following message "Error has been encountered. Close this window and try again." Trying again only gets me to the same point. This morning I switched to Mozilla Firefox and, although the speed problem seems to be solved, Flash player is not running and I still cannot download it. I always get the same error message that tells me to try again. Help!!
If you haven't done so already, reboot your computer.
The sudden onset of a nasty performance problem in IE is a little concerning. You might want to investigate that a little more with something like: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ or Free Malware Removal Tool | Anti-Malware Scan Software just to err on the side of caution, particularly if the performance issue is persists after you reboot.
Anyway, I'd do a clean install of Flash Player as an easy troubleshooting step:
Then install both of these:
Firefox and other NPAPI browsers:
Thanks for the advice. Yes, I did have a virus and it’s taken care of now. All’s well with the world again.
