Clipping is used for changing the histogram to utilise the full dynamic range. There I take the term as meaning the same as trimming.
It's also used when paths or shapes create the outline for a mask - clipping mask - again that seems like "trimming" to me.
"Clipping" is also used when making an adjustment layer only affect certain pixel layers - I think of that as like attaching two sheets of paper together with a "paper clip".
So the term's being used for at least 2 or 3 different things? Or is there some principal that links them ? Thanks
• Clipping Paths affect images and mean Paths that will be used to clip the images when (saved as eps and) used in layout applications
• Clipping Masks affect Layers and allow for having multiple Layers masked by/restricted to the base Layer of that Clipping Mask
• Highlight- and Shadow Clipping (in the context of the Histogram, Adjustments, developing RAW images) means completely white and black areas respectively
