I am running InDesign CC2014 on a Windows 7 machine.
I am working on a document with changing section and subsection numbers. I am having trouble getting figure caption to properly number when the subsection changes. I do not have the option of splitting sections and subsections into separate documents.
I have the style set up for the first section as in the first screen shot, giving me the caption Figure 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, etc: This is what I need it to do.
Now I need to get the caption Figure 1.2.1, 1.2.2, etc.
First I tried:
This gave me Figure 1.7.7, 1.8.8, 1.9.9.
Then I tried:
This gave me 1.1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.1 – it did not increment at all.
What do I need to do to get the second style, the one in the second and third screen shots, to give me 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, etc? Thanks.
You always used "Level: 2", though the caption number has three levels, at the first glance. What's the dependency of the numbers? Are they connected to the chapter where you place the figure?
I am not quite sure how to explain this.
The numbers in the style are dependent on the second number in the figure caption. The first number is the chapter, and I have been told that cannot change within a document.
The second number is dependent on what section I am in - Section 1, Section 2, etc.
The third number simply needs to increment.
Does that make it clearer?
