The alert triangle is grayed out.
Can you show me what you see with a screen shot? Here's what mine looks like, although I have CS5 (7.5.3) in Mac OS 10.7.5. When you refer to the triangle, do you mean the button to update the link is grayed-out? Does the link show as being modified?
Well Mig, I believe my INDD is doing like one's car does: It makes a funny noise and then when you get it to the mechanic, the funny noise stops. My copy of INDD is updating just fine this morning. Perhaps you sent some karma or something.
Thanks for the response,

My photoshop links in CC 2015 are not updating even when I close the file and re-open so I have to go to each link and manually update. Help on this anyone?
Are your preferences set to update automatically when a file is opened?
Thank you! This has been driving me nuts! In both CC 2014 and 2015.
I work on my local drive at home, and then come to the office and copy my work to the server. Until fairly recently, this worked fine, but then suddenly whenever I copied my work to the server, even with the file and directory structure unchanged, I had to relink everything. Seeing your post, I checked my preferences. Under "File Handling," "Check Links Before Opening Document" was unchecked, and "Default Relink Folder" was set to "Original Link Folder." I turned on the "Check Links" option and changed the Default Relink Folder to "Most Recent Relink Folder" and all is well.
