    Help with Word-to-InDesign workflow

I'm not an InDesign user.  Our office manager uses InDesign to publish technical reports from our office.  We create the reports and go through an extensive editing process in Word.  However, significant errors are introduced into the reports during the Word-to-InDesign conversion.  We then have to painstakingly re-edit the reports--and since we only have one InDesign license, we make this round of edits from a pdf document.  This is terribly inefficient and I feel we must be employing a flawed Word-to-InDesign workflow.  I welcome your suggestions and thank you in advance.
