I am brand new to Lightroom 5, having just moved 'up' from Photoshop elements and Aftershop pro. This my first post, so hope I am not falling foul of forum rules. I found your post as the most recent one after searching the help files, but can not see anyway to contact Adobe or any replies from them.
I am working my way through the tutorials and "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom: Classroom in a book". The very first lesson is on using Impromtu slideshow to review and quickly apply ratings and sort your photos:
I am using the latest standalone Lightroom 5.7.1 on a Windows 7 64 bit Pro system, so the issue is on the latest software.
I find the following errors :
Selecting Impromptu Slideshow starts a slideshow.
1) Spacebar stops the slideshow but does not restart it.
2) The left and right arrow keys do not advance or replay images.
3) Pressing number keys to rank images as they are shown , gives an on-screen prompt to say the image has been ranked, but the images are NOT ranked afterwards, only the first image (which is ranked with the last number typed)
4) The exit key does not exit the slideshow, pressing a mouse button seems to be the only way to exist the slideshow.
Ranking images via the slideshow is sold as an important workflow feature in the training documentation.
It seems to be totally broken in numerous ways.
Adobe any updates on this issue ??
This is a very disappointing introduction to Lightroom 5 and Adobe support for me, and I was really excited about using it.
Thanks for the update and replying so quickly trshaner,
I bought Lightroom 5 outright so I hope they address these defects within 5.x ! If not, yes, hope it gets fixed for everyone else on the monthly plans.
And why not for the Lightroom 6 standalone users? The only people who said Lightroom 6 will be subscription only are people who are panicking, and don't know.
This video tutorial using the Compare & Survey view modes for rating and ranking images may work just as well for you:
Thanks trshaner those are good videos.
Yes, I'll use that method in future. Its not quite full screen but certainly 'good enough' for now.
Hello JimHess, that's not a point I was trying to make. I intend sticking with LR5 for a bit, so hope any defects will be addressed without having to re-purchase.
I have reposted the question to see if there are any fixes in the works. I know how to rank using other methods, but found the impromptu slideshow very efficient for doing quick review of new images. Just watching images without being able to apply some type of delineation makes the option rather useless for workflow.
It's working for me in LR CC 2015.0.1. I can't see the ratings or labels as they are applied when in full-screen slideshow mode, but they are applied. The applied ratings and labels are visible back in the Library Grid, Loupe, and Filmstrip.
First try closing all applications and restart your system. If the problem persists reset your LR Preferences file as outlined at the below link for Lightroom 6/CC only:
