Does this happen in every project? Like, if you create a new project and import a JPG, can you drag that to the new comp icon to create a new comp? Once that comp is created, can you drag another instance of it into that same comp?
Does this issue happen in version 12 of AE? (If you don't have version 12 on that machine, could you download it and try? info on installing previous versions )
Hi thanks for your response.
Yes it happens on new projects and even old projects which used to work completely fine. I don't use any encrypted folders either unfortunately.
I've just uninstalled version 13 and am currently installing version 12. I'll post back here if that seems to have sorted anything!
I'd be interested to know what sort of hard drives you are using and where your AE cache is located.
Also, check your permissions and I mean ALL of them: fixing permissions problem
Upgrading Mac OSX (almost) always causes problems due to incorrect permissions being set and sometimes those problems are weird like this one.
So I installed the older AE version 18.104.22.168 and I'm getting the same crash.
Followed that link you gave me and permissions were as they should be already.
My hard drive is 512GB SSD, which I upgraded from my mbp's original hard drive 4 months ago and had no problems.
File System: Journaled HFS+
My disk cache is located at: /Users/[name]/Library/Caches
The conformed media cache and database are both located at: /Users/[name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common
I'm pretty sure those are the defaults as I haven't changed them.
Really not sure what else it could be.
OK so I tried installing Premiere Pro just to see if there was a similar issue and there was. It also came up with an error message saying "Sorry a serious error has occurred that requires adobe premiere pro to shut down".
After searching forums for that issue, some people said it was maybe the NVIDIA CUDA drivers. So I removed the CUDA drivers and the problem has now gone! Thanks for your help!
Sorry for the spam, but unfortunately that was only a very temporary fix. I have the same problem again when trying to drag media from project window to composition and even dragging layers in the composition. I can move the layers with CMD+[ or ] but dragging causes AE to crash. This is using AE CC 2014 (13.2).
That would be frustrating!
Try updating your NVIDIA drivers. (And, if your GPU supports CUDA, install the latest version of the CUDA driver that your card supports.)
Hey, how are you getting on with this? I've recently got the iMac 27" with a 3TB Fusion Drive and I'm having the same issue with AE 22.214.171.124 and Premier Pro. It's very odd and incredibly frustrating when we've got client projects that need finishing.
Have also been having this problem for the past month or so. Am running CC 2014 (13.2) and CS6 on the same machine. Can replicate the problem on both versions. Issue temporarily goes away after a reboot. But comes back. Sometimes after a day, sometimes an hour. Quite frustrating. No one come across a fix yet?
Mac OS X 10.8.5
2x 2.4 GHx Quad-Core Intel Xeon
NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 MB
Same here, and AI CC has the same issue when I drag elements around.
