What are you meaning?? Lightroom uses the OS to import and sets links to the files on your disc.....
There's a box to either check to uncheck. Thanks!
What check box? What are the EXACT words associated with this check box?
The problem is that I don't remember the name of the box to check or uncheck that someone once told me. If LR isn't installed and you put a CD w/JPG's into a Windows PC, a popup window gives you several option, one being Import Photos Using Windows. After you install LR, this window doesn't appear, instead the photos go straight into LR. I want to turn this on and restore the popup window that gives you options. In other words, I want my pix to go into Pictures, not LR.
I think you misunderstand what Lightroom is doing.
When you use Lightroom to import, your pictures do not "go straight into Lightroom". They go to your hard disk somewhere, they go to the exact location you tell Lightroom to put them in (which may be a default location). Lightroom never contains your photos; your photos are always on your hard disk; when photos are imported into Lightroom, then Lightroom only points to the folder location where your photos are stored..
So, using Lightroom, you can have your photos wind up in your Pictures folder (and are simultaneously imported into LR, which as I said means that Lightroom points to the photos in Pictures).
If you don't want Lightroom to start up immediately when you insert a CD or USB thumb drive or camera card, in Lightroom go to Edit->Preferences->General and then uncheck Show Import Dialog when a memory card is detected
