I just copied approximately 500 GB of photos from an external hard drive to a WD MyCloud device so I could access them from more than one computer. Imported them all back into Lightroom, Which took hours and hours for it to build new Standard Previews. In the process I seem to have lost all of my keywords. All of the other Metadata appears to have transferred with the photos, but the keywords are not there. I'm not sure it's a Lightroom issue, so if I need to address this somewhere else please let me know where.
Thanks for any help on this.
I'm using Lightroom 5.7
HP Desktop PC
In the future, move the files in Lr (or move in OS and then relocate in Lr - if you're doing a big set with a common root..). i.e. do NOT re-import.
PS - if you saved (xmp) metadata before re-importing, you'd not have lost your keywords. If you don't save xmp metadata, Lr stores keywords in catalog only, and discards them when photos are removed from catalog, i.e. if you re-import..
Thanks so much. I went back and used LR to move the files and it seems to have worked like a charm.
