Version of InDesign - is it fully patched?
Any warning messages?
Can you view the event viewer to see what the issue is?
There's a host of FAQ on the opening page of the IndEsign forums - have you tried these? If so which ones?
Thanks for your reply. I've spoken to Tech Support who have hopefully sorted it for us.
The version of InDesign was up to date. No warning message - spinning wheel
Check your fonts!
To many fonts? (Oh I know people with several thousand fonts and the are wondering about performance problems on their computer.)
Fonts with the same name on different places?
Some outdated font management system which requires an update or an upgrade?
Saved Data from previous crashed files? They could also cause crashes, and it might be useful to delete them, if nothing else helps.
Funny you should say that. The user does use Font Book and UTC simultaneously. Have always thought not a good idea, but does he listen?
We've created a new doc, then closed InDesign. Seems to be holding up. Fingers crossed.
There are other reports of slow performance on legacy files (those made in a previous version). New files generally work fine on the same system. An export to IDML often helps with the legacies (see Remove minor corruption by exporting)
