Flash installer hangs at 97%... and no more.

My Flash is out of date, downloading latest installer (v.16) and running it goes fine until 97% when it just hangs. I'm on a MacBook Pro, running OSX10.10.1 and have been through the help pages, even uninstalled Flash and started over and nothing changes. I've read through similar threads but none of them seem to address this problem and nothing suggested seems to work

Please try using the full installer, posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac page, in the 'Still having problems' section.

Yes have tried that too and it gets to 95% and just hang there as well...

Unfortunately, the logs look normal, except that if that's the end of the log, it looks like the installer just hangs. There's no obvious culprit here. My guess is that this is happening because something unexpected is failing due to an underlying issue with the filesystem, and we're either not getting an error back when it happens, or it's something totally unexpected that we don't handle.

Is your hard disk named something sane? It will get displayed when you go into the Disk Utility (instructions below). The only thing I've run into like this recently was a guy who's hard disk name was corrupted after an OS upgrade, and we didn't like the huge list of esoteric characters in the disk name. I see that the uninstaller is unable to find a bunch of files, so that *might* be what's happening, but there's nothing that clearly points to a problem in the log.

I'd recommend that you sanity-check the filesystem, then retry installing using the offline installer in Safe Mode, which should minimize any potential for conflicts:

Thanks for that, sorry this is proving to be quite frustrating and this route was the only Support route offered when I went through the contact Adobe section on the site. I'll try your recommendations and see what happens.

Well, ran Disk Utilities and verified, repaired everything but it didn't actually throw up any errors, ran installer in safe mode as well as the specific installer for Safari and same problems - Install v.16 hangs at 97, Safari at 95 and then isn't responding when have to Force Quit the installers as quitting them doesn't work. My hard drive is named Macintosh HD so don't think that is an issue.

I have seen this problem flagged up in a bunch of other forums on the Adobe site so don't think it is unique to my mac, so not sure what else to do here - appreciate any suggestions or at least knowing what it is looking for (you mentioned the logs said it was trying to find some things during the installation).

Try deleting all of these locations by hand, and then running the installer:

Delete all remaining files and folders locating in the following folders:

\Library\Internet Plug-Ins\Flash Player.plugin
\Library\Internet Plug-Ins\flashplayer.xpt
~\Library\Preferences\Macromedia\Flash Player\
~\Library\Caches\Adobe\Flash Player\

If that doesn't work, please give me the recent output of ~/Library/Logs/FlashPlayerInstallManager.log again. Maybe we'll get something more useful.

Hi

Ok so NONE of those files were in those folders, I had run Uninstaller before based on something I found on another forum so possibly why? And the Installer log wasn't there either but do have a Logistic Report of the hang. It is a huge file so not sure how to get it to you or if you want it?

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on. My hope was that one or more of those files was corrupted and couldn't be overwritten, which was why the install was failing, but it sounds like it's just unable to copy the files into the locations they need to be in, and there's not a lot of information about why.

The log file (/Users/<you>/Library/Logs/FlashPlayerInstallManager.log) should tell you what's failing, but if you that's not getting created either, then I don't have a lot of clues.
