Thanks, but Ouch!!!
I think at that price I'll have to go with CC...
How valuable is perpetual access to your AE project files worth to you? Do you revisit 2-year-old projects, for example?
Are you aware that if you decide to discontinue renting AE Creative Cloud, the software won't open your project files after 3 months, and that you'd have to rely on the kindness of someone who still rents CC to open them for you?
Wow, I didn't know about the 3 months thing.
REF: Revisiting Old AE projects
I do mainly design work right now, am offering Animation & Video,
so it's quite difficult to justify spending High Hundreds of £
if I am only getting a few projects in a year.
Will have to do lots more research.
If it were me, and I couldn't afford to buy CS6, I'd start looking at buying CS 5.5.
The plusses: you could get it for cheap because Adobe doesn't sell it any more, you wouldn't be out much money if you decide a newer version is needed, it's 64-bit software (a big deal), it works well -- especially for the occasional user -- and it has a lot of nice features. I use it myself at home. Suits me just fine.
The minuses: it doesn't run on the latest Mac OS, it lacks features found in newer versions, Adobe doesn't update it any more, and you couldn't open project files made in later versions.
There may be other pros & cons, but that's not a bad list for starters.
I agree, will look into CS5.
There is CS5 and then there is CS 5.5. If you decide to go that route, I recommend CS 5.5.
