how can I use my interface as audio output hardware in premiere pro?

Ok, so I just bought a Mac Pro:

      Mac Pro OS X 10.10.1 (Late 2013)

      3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5

      16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC

      AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB

Because this computer only has a headphone jack for audio, I set my audio output to external hardware (in this case, a small interface) in Preferences in Premiere CS6.  Unfortunately when I hit the spacebar for playback, nothing happens.  The playhead does not move and  no playback.  Its not my interface because it works fine with my audio software and it is completely updated with the latest drivers and all.  By the way, it did work at first so I know it can be done.

I'm just wondering what this problem could be from and if anyone has a fix for it.  I really hate relying mainly on headphones and I'd like to have some speaker action on my new system.

      Thanks.
