    After Effects hardware questions

    jimblind

      Hello everyone.

I have some questions regarding the optimisation of Adobe After Effects with hardware.

      1. what is more important for better AE performance - CPU or GPU?

      2. what is better for AE performance - Intel i7 CPU with 2 cores and hyper-treading enabled or AMD A10 CPU with 4 cores?

      Thanks in advance.

            1. CPU and NOT GPU.

            2. The faster processor wins.  Neither processor mentioned is worth a spit for multiprocessing in AE.

I was thinking about buying an Alienware PC model # A51R2-1766SLV made by dell.  I currently have a Mac Mini and an older outdated HP use.  Through a Friend I can get this new unused Alienware PC for a really really good price ($999 instead of the retail price of $1700). The Specs are Below. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) how well would this PC work with After Effects, ProPremiere, & Rendering? I've tried to do my homework, but would just like some reassurance. I'd rather buy nice than by twice.  Your help would be appreciated.

You want Windows 7 Pro, not Home.  You will be limited to 16 GB RAM, which is not really enough for good performance with After Effects.

You will want to add more drive(s), preferably another SSD.
