    putting border around jpg photos

    Level 7
      Hi,

I'm using FW MX 04 and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do
what should be a simple task. I have jpg photos for a web site and I
want to put a 1px black border around each. In Photoshop it's quite
straight forward - select all and add a 1px stroke - but I can't figure
out how to do this in FW which is the program I'd rather work in. It's
probably something quite obvious that I'm missing and any suggestions
      will be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

          Hi Fred,

You can do it in FW with the Outer Bevel effect. Choose [+], Bevel and
Emboss > Outer Bevel. Set the contrast to 0%, the width to 1 pixel, the
color to black, and the softness to 0.

The problem with adding a 1 pixel solid color border to images is that,
because they are exported in JPEG format, the border will probably look
fuzzy. Depending on your export settings, the border might even be lost.
The better way to add a 1 pixel border to images on a Web page to to add
          them in Dreamweaver with CSS.

Thanks for the prompt reply Linda. I am surprised that there is no
straight forward way to put a border around an image in FW but I do
appreciate the CSS suggestion. I shudda thought of that.

Another option is to draw a 1-px vector rectangle around the picture.
When I do it, I don't even try to be careful about size/location; once
it's drawn, set X and Y locations to 0, and width and height to the image
              dimensions, using the property inspector.

And yet another: set the canvas color to black; then resize it to be 2px
larger than the bitmap in both directions.

                  Fred,
Once you create the border using Linda's method, save it as a style.
Then you can apply it with one click.

There is a Black Border command available here.....

Thanks Joe & SKB. I'll try all of the above and see which works best.
                    The black canvas sounds interesting.

There's a free Fireworks extension that will do an outline of any width and
any color in a click, called Wireframe - I use it a lot:

                        Jerry,

I was going to point Old Dog to that extension, and proceeded to that page,
but I couldn't find it there?

                        Am I missing something?

Thanks Jerry, I was being thick. I must say I don't find the exchange an
                            intuitive tool.
