Ok. To my real astonishment, if I just screw up the image proportion (I just stretched it badly to test).
Now I use those buttons. What happens?
InDesign "respects" the screw up than reverting to the image's original proportions!
So, now my question is, how do I revert to the original proportion?
This was some learning...
Inflight suggested how to fix it, in the "Info" section. Now it is fixed:
- Direct-select the placed object and then specify identical values for the X and Y scale percentages in Control Panel.
Phew! The world is at peace again. It seems odd to mark my own question with my own correct answer. But then, that is fact!
One very fast way to fix this that I use is to select the content with the direct select tool and press one of the "nudge" button arrows in the control panel scale fields (with the chain link enabled). This will set both values at once to the next higher or lower full percent value. You can then use the fitting buttons normally. Another method is to copy the value from one filed and paste into the other, but I think the nudge button is a lot faster.
