I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this. There isn't another way to use fonts from Typekit; the Creative Cloud application has to be running in order for the fonts to be synced to your computer. I have shared your comments with the rest of my team, though, so we can look into other options for the future.

Any progress on this? I have a problem (as does my colleague) that about half the time when updating the CC app, the process gets about 75% through updating and then the CC app just disappears: it's no longer installed. You try to install it again and it comes up with an error.
This just happened to me this morning: into work early to do a last minute request for a meeting, the job uses TypeKit fonts, they won't load unlesss I update the app, I try to update the app and the app deletes itself leaving me with no way to do the job,
This is unacceptable!
