If you bought the software from Amazon, you probably received a redemption code rather than a serial number.
See here to turn your redemption code into a serial number: Find your serial number quickly
Well, the entry on the box says:
Serial number: Ligtroom RET
.. so I think it is not a redemption code. Am I wrong?
So, let's confirm some basic facts.
You have installed the trial version of LR 5.3 and not some other version?
You have a serial number for Lightroom 5 (and not some other version)? Is this a 24 digit number in six groups of 4 digits, with no characters?
Bothe things are true:
- I've installed the most recent trial version from the Adobe website.
- The serial number is a 24 digit number, contained in 6 groups of 4 digits
So now you have contradicted yourself
"I've installed the most recent trial version from the Adobe website" means you cannot be using Lightroom 5.3, as the most recent version is 5.7.1
So which is it? What is the exact version number that is installed and not accepting your serial number?
I only said that I've installed the most recent trial version, I didn't say something about the version 5.3.
Since I'm not sitting in front of my own PC right now, I need to check later which version it is.
Do you know which was the version which Adobe offered as a trial version 24 days ago? Well, that's the one I'm using.
The most likely cause of this problem is that you downloaded the Creative Cloud trial version of Lightroom and that you have a serial number for the Perpetual License version of Lightroom.
If that is the case, you need to download and install the Perpetual License version and enter your serial number into that. You can download it from here: Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows
I have the box with the original software CD so I will install the application from this CD.
I've installed the version which was offered as a trial version for download from Adobe, so if
this is the Creative Cloud version of Lightroom I'm not unhappy since I don't know the difference
between the versions. My goal was to try working with Lightroom...
Thanks for your help dj_paige!
I misread your original problem statement
"I have installed a trial version of Lightroom 5 3 weeks ago to test the software."
and I thought it said "Lightroom 5.3"
Now I can see what caused the confusion :-)
Anyway, I just thought I can use the the serial number contained in the purchased box to use the trial version permanently
and I learned that this is not possible. I will uninstall the trial version and install the software from the CD I've bought.
Thank you so much for your help dj_paige!
You can use the serial number to activate the trial version if you installed the right trial version. The creative cloud installation doesn't require a serial number. That's why you can't activate it with a serial number. If you downloaded from the right website you could activate the trial version. If you install from disk you will be prompted to update immediately because the installation disks aren't updated every time Lightroom is updated. But the choice is yours, and there's nothing wrong from installing from the disk. After you go through the update process everything should be fine.
