What version of Premiere Elements on Windows 7 (assumed 64 bit)?
Where are these m4a files coming from - iTunes or other?
If iTunes, then convert the m4a to wav version in iTunes and then import the wav version into Premiere Elements with its Add Media/Files and Folders. Please see

Thank you very much! I will try that.
I use adobe premiere elements 12 on windows7 64 bit. Yes, I wanted to import them from iTunes, but also tried different ways.
But shouldn't APE support m4a? They say it in the description: Unterstützte Dateiformate | Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements.
I nowfound out that I am able to import .mp3.
Thanks for the reply. Will be looking forward to your results.
There has been a problem with iTunes music over the versions. And, the conversion of this iTunes music to wav version in iTunes has been
producing a wav version file that Premiere Elements imports without issue.
To be continued...
YES IT WORKED! Thank you for your advice! I converted some files from m4a to mp3 and now I can import them to APE!
Some last question: Will the files lose quality during beeing converted?
Thanks for the good news that the m4a to mp3 conversion for your iTunes music worked for you to get that music into your
Premiere Elements project.
As for quality, I would have probably gone for the wav version (as suggested) instead of the .mp3 version option in the iTunes conversion.
But, please do a mini test and compare wav version versus mp3 version to determine what will work best for you.
