I guess defining the extent and value of the "whatnots" will help you determine if the new and enhanced features are of any use to you.
Adobe would maintain that they're must-haves. All depends on what you do with InDesign as to whether the value is worth it to you.
Depends on what you want to do with it. For EPUB it’s lightyears ahead,
for print, no so much.
For print the text wrapping which works together with footnotes is important.
