Can I create multiple files with running footers that can be adjusted from one source in the original file? For example, if I split one chapter into three files within a book, could I use the chapter opener title as a source so that when it was changed it altered all of the footers?
To the best of my knowledge, variables only work within the document in which they are located, but I'd love to be told I'm wrong.
Thanks for the reply, I thought the same, the only thing that made me question it is that in the synchronise options window within the book there's a tick box for 'text variables'. You must be able to do it within some capacity but almost certainly not with running footers. I was ever hopeful!
Synchronizing would add variables from the source that are not yet defined in the other docs, and redefine any that already exist to match the source.
