Frustrated. After much struggling found out I needed t upgrade to elements 13 and get latest version of ACR to open my NEF files. I have a Nikon D3200 which IS listed in the supported camera section. So now I have everything up to date and I still get "can't open message"
It's on me for not using trial version but I had (misplaced?) trust that my problem would be solved.
So I have the LATEST VERSION OF ACR..
I have downloaded DNG converter and it too DOES not recognize my NEF files. At wit's end.
Can any one help!
Running on Macbook Pro w/Retina, less than a month old.
The usual problem is that you’ve touched (viewed, copied) the NEFs with older Nikon software, which has a side-effect of slightly changing something in the header of the NEFs that makes them unrecognizable to Adobe software. Since you seem to have up-to-date software, I’d guess this corruption has happened.
You can test this by copying newly-shot NEFs from your card to the computer using your OS utility like Finder or Explorer, and then try importing those. If this works, then avoid using Nikon software with your NEFs.
You can correct this corruption with a utility from this website:
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT on every count!
FI used Nikon's Transfer 2 to dump from card. So, yes, it was "touched" by Nikon.
I took some new RAW pics and loaded via iPhoto... Opened in Camera Raw like a champ!
The I rran utilities and BOOM, recovered 100 files I thought was useless!
Excellent job, and very much appreciated.
