Hello. I am doing research on the possibilities that the PDF and EPUB format offers as support for the edition of virtual books. Therefore, I would like to know which features such formats supports as regards multimedia (video, pictures, sounds, etc.) and interactivity (JAVA, Flash, etc). Lastly, it would be very helpful for me to know if InDesign allows the possibility of exporting with all these features and which software would be necessary to read a format like this, not only in computers but also in tablets and/or cell phones.
I highly recommend picking up "Digital Publishing with Adobe InDesign CC" from Adobe Press, written by Sandee Cohen and Diane Burns. It will answer all your questions.
There are a lot of fine point in using different kinds of interactivity which a simple list would not answer.
Bear in mind that Flash cannot be used on tablets or cell phones (except Windows 8 tablets), so though you can use Flash with PDF, it won't work on these devices. Very little of the interactivity supported in PDFs works on these devices, but Flash is the most obvious stopper.
