The Dell Ultra Sharp - Premier Color line is unbeatable for quality and price, Dell Ultra Sharp monitors have been my choice for the last 8 years or so.
Take a look at the Asus PB287Q.
...one option to consider is using dual 27 inch WQHD monitors which are 2560x1440p. The Dell IPS model was recently on sale for $499. Acer has an IPS model which was reviewed very favorably and was on sale at $299....I bought two and am blown away.....the easyily seen improvement over 1080p is astounding.
The pixel density on the 27 inch screen is perfect...you would need a magnifying glass to see the individual pixels. Combined with the better IPS colors, it may be something to consider while waiting for 4K monitor prices to come down and become more of a standard.
Well I decided to get a 4k monitor and use one of my current ones as my second for now. I made this decision mainly due to finding a deal on ebay for 500.00 for it. Got a Dell UltraSharp UP2414Q
Seemed pretty hard to beat that price. I can use that monitor for when I'm editing my video/grading and then use the other for browsing/games/everything else.
Also I found out my graphics card a 760 GTX does have a display port, which also went into my decision.
