It would help if you could show a screen capture of the note that gets created. That might give us a clue about what's going on.
It sounds like you may have some third-party plug-in which is being invoked. It's not so easy to accidentally create a note using the InDesign Note feature, unless you've added a keyboard shortcut to do so.
Thanks for your reply Steve. Basically if I copy text from within the document it coverts the text on teh page to an hour glass symbol and then when I paste it it dos the same thing. If I am bring text from word doc outside indesign and try and paste it in indesign it just gives me our hour glass symbol. I's been doing a fair of of copying and pasting from word to indesign and it was fine then suddenly this happens. I have managed to get around it by pasting text using Paste in Place function.
Let's start with a few basics: What computer operating system are you using? What version of InDesign?
I was apparently misled by your using the term "create a note" function. There is a specific feature in InDesign called a Note, and it doesn't sound like that's what's happening. Sounds more like a delay in your system (the "hour glass icon").
Start by restoring your InDesign preferences. Here's how:
Steve in between our correspondence I decided to reboot my computer to see if that would help and it has. Thank you for your advice. The program was acting strangely so I think your advice was of benefit.
