Why do some images turn out wrong in a PDF

Lately when I've exported a document to PDF, some images with a white background turns out gray in the PDF (the white background becomes gray). Those are .tif images and .psd images (in gray mode).

I've tried different settings in the export dialogue, but nothing seems to help.

I find this strange, because I've exported a lot of PDFs with the exact same images before (using the same InDesign version, and the same export settings), and there has never been a problem with this earlier.

      Has anyone got a clue?
