    Updating Links on new pages?

    bbatesokc
      Summary:
I am running into an issue. I am publishing complete articles on my main page. As they become older I reduce the article to just a summary and provide a link to the entire article. I then cut and paste the original article into a new document. One new document per article. All these archived articles are in a folder on my server.

      Problem:
When I click on the link from the main page to the complete article, all of the internal links within the article now no longer are valid. Seems when I cut and paste the entire article into the page where it will be archived, the links do not get updated with the location of the internal pages in relation to the articles new archived location.

      Clear as mud?

Is there anyway for Dreamweaver to update links to internal pages even when the page page containing the link is moved?

      Thanks!

Okay. If your site is set up like this:

index.html <= home page (in website root folder)
          /archivefolder/article1.html

the problem may be that you're cutting/pasting links that would have been correct in the root, but not when you paste to a page in the /archivefolder. If this is the case, what I'd do is create the new page (article1.html) *in the root folder* and then move it to the archive folder before uploading. That should make DW update the links.

Paste into the archive page. Then save the page into the new folder. DW
            will manage the links.
