add a background with alpha=0 to your textfields.
Did you see the video? I'm not talking about text fields I created, I'm talking about Flash's text fields like the library search box.
try resetting your preferences.
I reset Flash CS5's preferences and it didn't fix it. Would I need to reset all my Adobe software preferences? I also have Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere CS5. I'd rather not do this if it's not going to fix anything.
I appreciate the help.

no, just flash if that's the only program that displays the problem.
you could try updating your video card drivers, but if that fails uninstalling, cleaning (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and reinstalling may be needed.
I didn't realize it could be the video card drivers. It's a possibility as I reinstalled the operating system a few weeks ago. When I go to device manager it says everything is up to date. I ran the Intel driver updater to be sure but it can't update because it says "A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer."
I got all the drivers from Dell too. But no matter how many times I install them, these drivers keep reappearing as available updates:
I wasn't too concerned though, I had another Dell of the same model that also wanted the Intel chipset installed repeatedly. What about the BIOS update? Could that be causing the problem?
no, the bios wouldn't cause that.
