Are these graphics created in InDesign or in Illustrator or Photoshop?
Illustrator or Photoshop graphics would have no way to retain their original location. InDesign files are saved as "snippets" which does store location information.
For InDesign graphics, I think it should retain the position if you choose Preferences > File Handling > Snippet Import > Position at Original Location before placing the graphics.
@heathera – did you try using the modifier key "alt" * after the place gun is loaded and you click to place the asset?
That would usually place a snippet to its original position (if possible). This could change, if you are using assets (snippets) in Libraries or CC Libraries that initially were created in facing pages documents and placed in not facing pages documents.
* InDesign on Mac OSX
Great! Thanks Steve Werner that solved the problem. Yes, the graphics were created Indesign and meant for Indesign.
@Laubender - The 'alt-click' method works when placing a snippet using the 'place' command, but when pulling from CC library - it doesn't seem to work.
It's working with graphics from the CC Library as well.
1. Drag out the asset
2. You see the green plus sign
3. The place gun is filled
4. NOW use the "alt" modifier key and do a click
Works for me with InDesign CC 2014.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 (German)
Btw. My Preferences are on Position: Cursorposition for Snippet-Import.
