Weird audio issue going on with a MOV file used in project

    HeavyWater007

So hoping someone has came across this and knows what's going on.

I'm using AE CS6.  I have a quicktime movie that is a clip in my comp.  Comp has been rendered successfully in the past.  I've copied the folder containing the source files to a new hard drive and I've reinstalled my operating system.

I go to edit this project that i've worked on previously, but when I go to render it out and playback the movie, the audio for the clip plays for about a minute just fine then it loops back to the beginning of the clip for a couple of seconds, then jumps back to current position then jumps to another point, all while the video plays like it should.

So in the original comp, I use the source clip three times with it's respective audio.  I'm basically taking three different points in the clip. Each point on it's own layer.

Some things i've done to try and troubleshoot.

      - I've checked the source mov file and it' plays perfectly.  No issues

      - I've double clicked on the source clip in the project list.  I then attempt to RAM preview it.  It plays for about a minute (about the threshold of RAM preview) and it loops/does it's wierd thing at the same point.

      - I've tried to delete the two layers, leaving just the single layer/clip and try to RAM Preview and wierd loop still occurs.

      - I've tried to Reload the source clip

      - I've tried to Copy the file/import the copy/replace footage of the source clip...still wierd loop occurs.

      - I've tried to delete the AE disk cache/delete windows temp files/reboot the computer...no joy.

Kinda thinking my project is jacked and I'll have to McGuiver the video/audio to complete the final movie...

      Thoughts?

      Thanks in advance.

Without proper system information and other technical details like the actual file specs and render settings nobody can tell you much. You've written a lot, but provided very little usable info.

              Render Settings:

Output module: format set to H.264

              Audio output checked.

All other settings for rendering left at default.

And what is your full version number? "CS6" tells us that it starts with 11, but what are the numbers after that? Is it 11.0.4? If not, you should consider updating. You're missing out on the bug fixes!

What version of QuickTime do you have installed?

Have you ever installed any codec packs (such as K-Lite)? They can sometimes cause weird issues like this.

11.0.0.378 (Guess having the latest update would help)

                  Quicktime is 7.7.6

                  No third party codecs installed

Yeah, totally forgot about ensuring the version was up to date.

I'll update and test again and report back.  I'm pretty sure my previous install prior to me reinstalling my os/cs6, was on the latest version which would explain why it rendered fine before an not now.  Must have had a lapse in brain activity...should have made sure that was current before posting.

Won't be able to try and render again till later so I'll post the results.

                  Thanks for the feedback.

No joy.  Current AE version is 11.0.4.2.

Again, the original footage audio is perfectly fine.  Plays back like it should.  It's almost like AE his a warped version of the video hiding in some small crevice it's holding on to and has the audio playback all jacked.  Makes no difference in timeline, if I move it to other layers, etc.  The rest of the project/video/audio files playback with no issue.  Just this one particular clip.

                      :-\

Try using the Adobe Media Encoder or QuickTime Pro or whatever you have to transcode that file into something else. Heck, I don't care if you convert it to QuickTime so long as it's using a different codec! Then replace that audio in the project with the new audio.

As another troubleshooting step.  Created a brand new comp.  imported just that single clip.  set the preview area to the problematic time of where the issue occurs.  Do a RAM preview.  Still have the weird looping effect.  Happens at the same place/location in the clip.

                          :-\

ok...let me try transcoding it to another format and see what happens and i'll update with results.  Thanks for the help Szalam.

My guess is that there's some conform file somewhere that's screwy. Hopefully, AME doesn't pull from it.

If it does, try making a copy of the footage WITH A DIFFERENT NAME IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION and working from that.

So think you are on to something Szalam.  Tried with AME to transcode audio only to MP3 as well as full on video and audio to MP4.  Both files had the loop.  I used super to pull the audio but the default encoder for super on MP3 is LAME.  Transcoded to MP3 and the file from Super plays the audio back correctly.  I'm not fairly with the inner workings of the Adobe applications so I don't know where  AE/AME are pulling this info from which apparently is contributing to the audio issue.

Analysis of the transcoded Super file:

More tidbits to add to the scenario.

I add the newly transcoded MP3 to the project and timeline and of course it plays through just fine.  I did notice that when I setup the original MOV file, I increased the Audio level to +12dB.  I twirled open the Waveform on the original MOV and the waveform is blank/empty...nothing is showing but gray background.  I twirl open the new MP3 and the wave form is displayed as expected.
